HISTORY
Cutting Specialists, Inc. in Tukwila, Washington has a rich history in metal cutting and machining. It all started on Beacon Hill in Seattle, WA. when Don Engstrom Sr. founded Engstrom Machine Works in 1950. Engstrom Machine Works established its name by specializing in job shop work for the metal-heavy marine and shipbuilding industries around Puget Sound. Later in the 1950’s Don Sr. recognized the need to manufacture better and overhaul aircraft propellers. Don Sr. applied his engineering and machining talents to design and build a specialized grinding machine used on propellers that are still in use around the world today.
In 1966, second generation owner, Don Engstrom Jr. came on board as President, and the company moved to its current location in Tukwila, WA, continuing its operation as a job shop. In 1986, realizing there was an opportunity to offer low-cost metal saw cutting, Don Jr. liquidated all machining equipment and transitioned to saws, essentially carving a niche for companies with tough metal to cut, hence Cutting Specialists, Inc. was born.
In 2008, Mike Engstrom purchased the company from Don Jr. and a 3rd generation Engstrom took charge. Since that time Cutting Specialists, Inc. has continued its dominance in the metal saw cutting industry and has expanded its current facilities with the addition of a second warehouse. Today, Cutting Specialists, Inc. is thriving and has over 18 band saws specializing in hard to cut Aerospace Alloys.
